  • Myth 1: Breastmilk derives directly from what the mother eats! 

Breastmilk is made in the breasts through the blood flow. Whatever you eat is first broken down into smaller components. It then is absorbed by the blood and is circulated in different parts of the body. 

Hence, breastmilk’s composition cannot be hindered by what you eat or what you do not eat. This should not be mistaken with not eating and still producing breastmilk. To be able to produce breastmilk, your body should have ample nutrients! And to be stocked with enough nutrients, you should eat a healthy breastfeeding diet!

  • Myth 2: Foods that make mother gassy and also make the baby gassy. 

Gas cannot pass through the intestinal tract into the bloodstream. Though, gas in babies can be caused due to certain proteins that are passed into the blood. The protein could be from the same food you had a problem with.

But it’s certainly not the gas mothers have in their intestinal tract!

  • Myth 3: Caffeine can keep the baby awake

Brazilian Studies have shown there is no regard for caffeine and babies being awake. Caffeine can keep the nursing mother up and tight but it’s a loose possibility for the baby to be awake because of the coffee intake. 

2. Foods To Avoid While Breastfeeding


  • Foods you are allergic to: 

Though it’s close to rare for your baby to develop allergies that you have. It’s advisable to not eat the food that you are allergic to for your own safety & your baby’s. 

There is no proven way to tell if not eating certain kinds of food will stop its allergic reaction in the baby. To play on the safe side, you can avoid foods that you think might cause allergies in babies! 

  • Foods that make your baby respond negatively:

It’s always advisable to keep up with a food chart when breastfeeding or starting solid foods. When starting solid foods, try to start with single foods and add more later. Watch your baby’s reaction every time you add a new food in their diet.

If you notice intestinal or respiratory problems, skin rashes or skin issues in your baby, cut off that food from your diet and consult a pediatrician ASAP! 

3. Alcohol Consumption


Alcohol can easily transfer from the mother’s blood into her milk. NO amount of alcohol should be considered okay while breastfeeding. 

Despite Moderate consumption of alcohol isn’t proven harmful in babies. But if it enters mother milk, your baby is likely to lose its sleeping pattern, feeding pattern which further can create milk supply issues and much more! 

Avoiding Alcohol consumption while breastfeeding is the best choice you can make for your baby.

4. Cow’s Milk & CMPA!


The most common allergy babies can pick is to Cow’s milk! It’s advisable to not intake cow’s milk and dairy products if your child shows symptoms against Cow’s Milk. 

CMPA in as Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy is a food allergy that’s developed by the immune system against cow’s milk proteins. The symptoms of this allergy are constipation, diarrhea, reflux. 

Babies can outgrow CMPA by 16-18 months. It can take more or less time. What’s more important is to cut out your dairy products intake until you are breastfeeding!
