If you’re going to be a mom for the first time then perineal massage is right for your body because your body has never pushed out a baby before.

The perineum is a soft skin between your vagina and anus. During labor, due to pressure, this delicate area is prone to tearing for women who have their first vaginal delivery.

The tearings are varied in size, some are tiny and heal quickly and they don’t even require any special treatment.

While others are serious with doop laceration and require stitches and need weeks for healing and you may feel discomfort also.

The solution is we can always try to make perineum flexible and stretched for the birth process, with PERINEAL MASSAGE.

It is precisely a massage of the perineum. Some pregnant woman can do it themselves. Others need the help of their partners. Perineal massage helps to increase the flexibility of the perineum. It can help to prevent the tearing during labor & birth process.

Also, it is beneficial during pushing stages of labor, if it is done throughout the pregnancy. If you regularly stretch the perineum, it will allow stretching more easily when the baby is crowning, with less pain.

With regular massage, perineum stretches more efficiently and the baby’s head may come out quickly during the birth process. This way, you’re mentally prepared for the pressure and stretching by taking regular perineum massage, you know well what to expect while pushing. It makes you less tensed and helps to stretch comfortably during labor.

Start your perineal massage around 34 to 35 weeks, no need to start it any earlier. You can do perineal massage once a week or as often you like, it depends on you.

what to do for perineal massage: –

Kneeling and Squatting is a great pushing position. Traditionally, women give birth by lying down. But squatting births can be a great way of having easy and quick birth. If you have to squat at the right time and the correctly during labor pain.

While squatting your upper legs act like a lever for your pelvic bones by widening your pelvic opening by 20 to 30%. This position can increase the amount of oxygen to the uterine muscles.

Epidural is a procedure that is injected into space around the spinal nerves in your lower back. This process usually blocks the pain of labor contractions. An epidural can help to move and push your baby out when you need to push.

But epidural has disadvantages also. Firstly, epidural prevents you from assuming the best positions for giving birth. You rely only on pushing back. Secondly, after the epidural process, many women’s don’t feel what is happening with their body and do not feel the urge to push.

They only depend on their doctors, nurse, Doula or their partner to tell them when to push and how to push. In this process, they will have to push even when their body is not ready. These two reasons may be risk factors for tearing.
