Clogged Milk Ducts are most common in women who’re breastfeeding to newborn, recently soon-be-mom, any reason opted not to breastfeed newborn, or has recently stopped breastfeeding. These are the possible causes.

Blocked or clogged milk ducts are likely to occur when a mother doesn’t thoroughly drain the breast, and this act allows milk to accumulate in any specific area of the breast and block the duct.

Some other reasons are oversupply, a baby with a weak latch or pain that impedes frequent nursing are vulnerable to clogged milk ducts.

It’s all natural that breastfeeding mothers can experience a clogged duct. Few risk factors include:

  • a recent change in feeding pattern
  • a weak latch by the newborn
  • not fully draining of the breast while feeding
  • an irregular breastfeeding schedule
  • short breastfeeding sessions
  • positions of breastfeeding, tight-fitting clothes or a bra with underwire

The First thing I did I ran up to the Bathroom and Took a Long Hot Shower.

I kept my breast under the hot (but not boiling water) stream of water and massaged it gently. But bad luck. Still, I’d pain in my breast.

Then I Tried Breastfeeding Again to my child

But what I tell you my baby wasn’t getting much milk. She was unable to suck the milk because of a duct. I was hurting when she was stared to sucking.

Now I started to Panic a Bit

Even I apply this method to cracked nipples too. Instantly the cracked tissues softened a bit. But the important thing is I get relieved from pain and inflammation.

4. Use Potatoes: After finishing massage, place a thin slice of organic potatoes on the infected area. Chop some slices of potato and place them all around the breast, and put on a bra to hold the potato slices in the place.

You can use grated potato and cover with a clean, soft towel. It sounds weird but it is a very effective DIY to get rid of the clogged milk duct. Trust me. Now you can do your house chores leave it for an hour. You can replace fresh potato slice if needed.

5. Use This Position for Feeding: Lay your baby on a bed and make a bridge pose on the baby. Gently drop your elbow and let your boobs lean downward. Now feed your baby with breast hanging down directly into her mouth. This position has gravity and working best for you. Try to aim baby’s chin to the clogged duct, as this has the greatest force.

  • Try sunflower lecithin: Consume sunflower lecithinfrom a non-GMO source as directed on the bottle. This help to thin the milk and help prevent “stickiness” of milk which is the main cause of clogged milk duct.
